History of Photography Timeline

One invention in photography that has made an impact on my life is the phone camera. Taking pictures have become much easier and more accessible compared to the past. Apps like photoshop and lightroom also have benefited greatly in photography. It allows us to edit pictures to our liking and correct any flaws it may have. Technology has overall greatly benefited the art of photography.

Magazine Covers

I like this magazine cover because I think Madonna looks cool in the image. I like that she takes up most of the cover and the photo itself is pretty.

I like this magazine cover because I like how the girl takes up all of the front page. I also like the simplicity in the shot and text surrounding the subject.

I like this magazine cover because the text is kind of weird. Underneath Britney’s face it says, “what’s brit been dreaming about?” and underneath Eminem it says, “em wants you to cry.” Also, the “wacky secrets” section is pretty weird and the whole cover itself is unnecessarily chaotic, which makes it fun to look at.

Pop Art

Pop art is an image or picture that represents something that is popular in modern culture. It revolves around mass media and typically emphasizes that certain subject. Pop art uses a variety of different patterns, colors, and themes in its works.

This artist’s work is considered pop art since it includes something that is popular in the culture, which is comic books, and uses a number of colors and boldness to make the image pop.

Roy Lichtenstein became an important figure in the pop art movement. His artwork was typically described as rather “disruptive”. Roy liked to describe his work as industrial paintings. He was heavily influenced by comic book styles as seen in this picture.

I picked this artist because I thought his work, being influenced by comic strips, was cool and something I’ve seen before in paintings. His style is familiar, which I liked. I also enjoy the reoccurring blonde character he uses in many of his images. I also enjoy the words he uses to emphasize his work like “POP!” or “WHAAM!”

Take a Vacation

I would like to go to Italy because it seems beautiful and nice, and I’ve always wanted to go since I was little. This particular picture is of the most famous and popular cities in Italy, Florence, which is also its capital. Italy seems to have very diverse foods and artistry, so it’d be cool to see that in person.

National Geographic Magazine Cover Review

I like this magazine cover because although it’s a simple picture, I think it’s very pretty and I enjoy the colors in it. I lived in LA since forever, so anything that has to do with the city I always enjoy or appreciate. The side text is also interesting like the “NASA’s Robots to the Moon.”

I liked this cover because I think the birds in the photo are very cute and the whole picture is very peaceful and pretty. The birds alongside the cross is very Christlike and compliments each other well in the picture.

I liked this cover for about the same reasons I liked the others. In this one there’s a moth and a flower which I think looks very pretty. It shows something deemed as almost scary and dark with something the opposite, a pretty pink flower. It’s just a cute visual overall and it caught my attention.

100 Most Influential Images

Photographer – Richard Drew

The picture was taken on September 11, 2001, shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center. The picture’s been widely seen by many people as it shows someone moments before meeting death. The man had been trapped on the upper floors of the building. Many people had been jumping out of the building since they were pushed away from the fire and smoke. It is unclear, however, whether the falling man willingly jumped or fell looking for safety. Although in this photo it seems he’s darting straight into the Earth when falling, a series of images taken shows that he was actually tumbling his way down. He is believed to have been an employee at the Windows on the World restaurant, however his identity is still unknown. I selected this photo because ever since I first saw it, it’s always been a picture I thought was both sad and beautiful. Seeing how desperate some people might’ve been to get as far away from the fires as possible is something I always correlate with this picture, as well as the many lives lost due to falling at this great height. The man’s presumably lifeless body in midair is an eerie sight, but I still love to look at the picture and think it’s very moving.

Photographer – Chris Hondros

In the photo is a little girl, Samar Hassan, who, prior to the photo, had been in the backseat of her parent’s car as they were driving home from Tall ‘Afar. Her parents were shot dead by US soldiers who claims they thought the car was carrying “insurgents or a suicide bomber.” This was when the war in Iraq was at its worst and an all-time low. It was devastating. I chose this photo because it was simply one that caught my eye. It made me realize how many devastations there has been in this world, and many caused by the US. It was a sad portrait of this girl and I think it can represent the many children who’ve lost their parents in similar circumstances.

Photographer – H.s. Wong

This baby’s mother was dead on the tracks nearby. After the photographer had tried helping the baby after taking the picture, his father ferried him away. This picture showed the destruction of Japan and China at the time and was dubbed the photo of Bloody Saturday. This picture led to Britain, France, and the US to protest such attacks like this one and eventually led to the second global conflict the world would face. I chose this photo because the pain in the infant’s cry and face is represented and seen perfectly through this captured photo. It’s a very sad image and, like the others I chose, moved me in a way and showed me the reality of the world we live in.

Alphabet Photography

I learned how to edit on both photoshop and lightroom. I learned how to move objects and place objects into my photos. I learned how to draw and illustrate pictures in photoshop. I learned how to edit myself in pictures. I learned how to shoot studio portraits.
